Its amazing how Europeans complain about having to work holidays and any over time. Its my opinion that they are lazier than Americans but our liberals are leading us in the same direction.
40hrs paid at regular rate
next 6hrs paid at 1.5X regular rate
next 6hrs paid at 2X regular rate
everything else is paid at 3X regular rate.
I have also noticed that everything is very expensive. Their household incomes are close to the same as Americans yet everything costs more.

I saw the Bono event also. Some big fracas about U2 giving a free concert, which I never even bothered to read.
BB, Bono is only half a religious nut. But I can live with him, because he really does what the bible says, and helps the poor.

Europeans work to live, Americans live to work. There is more to life than work.
Be glad that due to unions you're able to travel. Prior to the existence of unions there was horrid working conditions, no vacations, child labor, starvation.

Why do you think the government must tell employers what a living wage is. Also, why dont you want people to work for less than a living wage? Some people are not worth that much and SHOULDNT be paid that much. Example: students

Well GD BB, Ireland ranks way ahead of the US in GDP per capita than the US, according to Anons link. Those pesky poor people did it to us again, and dragged our numbers down, and shamed us in the eyes of the world.

I need the government to give me money, pay my bills, tell me what to drive, tell me what to eat and drink, give me jobs whether I am qualified or not, tell me how much I should be paid, tell me what lightbulbs to use, tell me what my money should be used for by taxing me from the cradle to the grave, tell me that rich white people are evil, tell me how bad Fox and Bush are, blah, blah, blah. Please help me. I am a con. I need you wise cons to tell women they do not have autonomy over their own bodies (abortion), homos are bad, sex is bad (except for creating Gods children), drugs are bad, etc.
JC HOTR, if your going to eat pork fat by the barrel, smoke cigarettes, drink booze (nothing wrong with that), then yes, you should be taxed for doing such. We should also be paying at least 10 dollars per gallon for gas as the true cost (excluding the carbon foot print) is far greater than that.

I dont think you can use this as a measure of a countries individual prosperity. Your not taking into account the higher costs of living. I believe $30K in the USA would last longer than trying to live off of it in Europe.
My point being if another country had the same average annual income as the average American but had a higher cost of living, than the American is doing better.
Alot of this is related to taxes and socialism!
